South Pole Snapshot

South Pole Snapshot, September 2017

This month we take stock of the very real impacts of climate change unfolding before us. As America reels from hurricane Harvey, and faces major disaster from hurricane Irma, floods throughout Bangladesh, India and Nepal put an estimated 40 million people out of their homes. Climate change is here and it is real - we need to collectively up our game to best prepare for the future ahead.

Given the increasing sophistication of our weather technology, important predictions concerning natural disasters are more accessible than ever. This new knowledge has turned the tables and the burden of proof is now with companies and countries to justify their status quo; why are you not innovating in a time of climate risk? The deepening knowledge of climate change is a business case for sustainability. We believe that understanding climate risks also unlocks unprecedented business potential, jobs and economic growth.

So while the storms may rage around us, this month also hallmarks a greater push for climate opportunities. We celebrate the second anniversary of the adoption of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Sustainable Development Goals, and take part in the Climate Week NYC 2017 in parallel with the opening of the UN General Assembly and Global Goals week. We are proud to provide solutions to businesses that both support corporate sustainability, and the global goals to accelerate the transition to a climate-resilient future.
Wishing you a productive month ahead,

your South Pole team.
