Inheritance Law Changes in Switzerland

SWITZERLAND: Federal government proposes to relax forced heirship

The Swiss government has asked parliament to amend federal succession law by reducing descendants' statutory entitlement from 75 per cent to 50 per cent of the estate, and abolishing entirely the parents' statutory entitlement. It also proposes that a surviving spouse or civil partner will not be entitled to a share of the deceased's estate if divorce proceedings were in progress, while the deceased's cohabitant will be able to claim maintenance from the estate.
