COVID-19 Scams –
Hackers preying on small business
Working from home exposes many businesses to increase cyber security issues
The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission’s (ACCC) Scamwatch has received over 1,100 reports about COVID-19 themed scams from individuals and businesses losing money or personal information to online frauds across Australia.
With many businesses opting to have staff work from home, greater and new cyber risks are emerging. Cyber criminals are taking advantage of staff and business reliance on new network infrastructure, unsecured lines, home devices and unfamiliar process to wreak havoc. And while you may think criminals think only attack the big guys, it’s the smaller businesses and individuals with less sophisticated security that becomes easy prey. Unpublicised small wins hackers can repeat over and over again on mass is proving a far more common strategy.
